Fethiye is a coastal town and district in south-west Türkiye, in the province of Muğla. It sits on the Mediterranean coast, around 48 km from Dalaman Airport and approximately 129 km from Muğla city centre.
You can reach Fethiye by air, coach, private car and, on some routes, by sea.
For most international visitors, the easiest route is to fly into Dalaman Airport. From there, getting into Fethiye is straightforward: you can take an airport coach, taxi, private transfer or hire a car.
How Do You Get from Dalaman Airport to Fethiye?
Dalaman is the closest airport to Fethiye. In practice, there are three main ways to make the journey.
1. HAVAŞ or MUTTAŞ Airport Coaches
HAVAŞ and MUTTAŞ operate coach services between Dalaman Airport and Fethiye Bus Station, with departures generally arranged around flight arrival and departure times.
Under normal traffic conditions, the journey takes roughly one hour.
For many visitors this is the easiest option because it is:
- affordable;
- comfortable;
- easy to use with luggage;
- particularly convenient if it is your first time in Fethiye.
Timetables and fares can change, so it is always worth checking the latest information shortly before travelling.
Once you arrive at Fethiye Bus Station, you are already in a very convenient part of town, with local transport connections in almost every direction.
2. Taxi or Private Airport Transfer
If comfort and time matter more than keeping costs as low as possible, a taxi or private transfer is the simplest choice.
Rather than being dropped at the bus station, you can travel directly from Dalaman Airport to your hotel, villa or home.
In normal traffic, the drive usually takes around 40–50 minutes.
We particularly recommend this option for:
- families or larger groups;
- travellers with a lot of luggage;
- late-night arrivals;
- anyone staying outside central Fethiye;
- visitors heading directly to areas such as Çalış, Ovacık or Hisarönü.
3. Hiring a Car at Dalaman Airport
If you want to explore Fethiye’s beaches, bays and surrounding villages independently, hiring a car is very easy.
There are several car hire companies at Dalaman Airport, and vehicles can also be reserved online before you travel.
Having your own car gives you the freedom to explore further afield, but it is worth knowing that you do not actually need a car to enjoy Fethiye.
During the summer months, traffic and parking can become busy in some parts of town. This is particularly noticeable around Fethiye town centre, Karagözler and Hisarönü. If you are staying in one of these areas, accommodation with private parking can be a real advantage.
Getting to Fethiye by Coach
There are direct intercity coach services to Fethiye from many cities across Türkiye.
Fethiye Bus Station is very centrally located, which makes arriving by coach particularly convenient.
From the station, you can easily continue by local bus or minibus towards:
- Fethiye town centre;
- Çalış;
- Taşyaka;
- Ölüdeniz;
- Ovacık;
- Hisarönü.
There are also taxi ranks around the bus station if you would rather continue directly to your accommodation.
Driving to Fethiye
Fethiye is accessible by road from both the Muğla–Dalaman direction and the Antalya direction, with the D400 providing the main road connection through the region.
Driving into Fethiye itself is straightforward. The main thing to allow for, particularly in summer, is additional traffic as you approach the central areas.
If you have a restaurant booking, appointment, flight connection or somewhere you need to be at a specific time, give yourself a little extra room during the busiest hours.
Parking is another consideration. Cumhuriyet, Karagözler and Hisarönü can become particularly busy, although paid car parks are available in a number of locations.
Do You Need a Car in Fethiye?
No. In fact, one of Fethiye’s biggest advantages is how easy it is to live here without relying on a car.
The town has an extensive network of local buses and minibuses. In central areas, you are rarely more than a short walk from a stop.
Public transport can take you to places including:
- Çalış Beach;
- Ölüdeniz;
- Ovacık;
- Hisarönü;
- Taşyaka;
- central Fethiye neighbourhoods;
- many of the surrounding beaches and bays.
Contactless bank and credit cards can be used on many local services, meaning visitors do not necessarily need to buy a separate transport card.

Is Fethiye Easy to Get Around?
Very.
One of the things people moving here from larger cities often notice first is just how compact everyday life can be.
If you are staying or living centrally, restaurants, cafés, shops, the waterfront and the town centre may all be within a few minutes’ walk.
Many journeys within Fethiye take roughly 5–15 minutes by car or public transport, depending on traffic.
This is one of the reasons people who move to Fethiye often adapt to the pace of life here very quickly. Daily errands simply do not require the kind of travelling you might be used to in a larger city.
Our Advice for Your First Visit to Fethiye
If it is your first time in Fethiye, we would recommend staying somewhere fairly central while you get to know the town.
Areas such as:
- Cumhuriyet;
- Kesikkapı;
- Karagözler;
- Tuzla;
- Çalış
make good starting points because you can reach so much on foot and use public transport for anything further away.
You may also find that a scooter or motorbike is more practical than a car for getting around town, particularly during the busy summer months. It can make both traffic and parking considerably easier.
And one final piece of advice from people who actually live here: ask locals where they eat, swim and spend their time.
Some of Fethiye’s nicest restaurants, bays and everyday places are not necessarily the first ones you will find in a generic travel guide.
